Success and failures reflection
Mass Communication Term Paper
One of the most effective ways to understand contemporary issues in mass communication, both in terms of substance and process, is to observe critically how events develop over time. For this project, I collected 10 major news articles from credible mass media sources over the course of three months.
I followed the single most important issue currently relating to mass communications and mass media, surveillance by the National Security Agency.

Throughout all the courses this semester, the assignment that made me feel the most successful was the term paper for my Mass Communications class. The project took a lot of time, energy, and brain power to complete. While it was one of the most challenging projects I have ever been assigned, I completed it with seconds to spare. All the effort that I put into the term paper was rewarded, as I earned a 100% grade on the project. The professor made it a point to meet with me and tell me how impressed he was with my work. After I turned in the project, I had my doubts about how well I did. To see the perfect grade written on my project was one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic career. It’s an amazing experience to see your hard work pay off, and it encouraged me to continue to put forth the same effort in all my academic endeavors. The perfect score also gave me a huge boost to my confidence, and it made me feel as though I am on the right path in my academic journey.
Mass Communications Midterm
Mass Communications is a survey course covering a broad array of mass media, social foundations of mass media, current issues, ethics and the legal framework. This midterm was designed to identify the information retained throughout the first half of the semester, which included elements of basic communication models, major events and figures in print media history, and major trends and issues facing the contemporary media industries.
The assignment that made me feel the least successful, however, was the midterm for my Mass Communications class. I studied for days, and made sure to concentrate on the main points that the professor stressed throughout the various lectures over the course of the semester. When it finally came time to take the midterm, however, I began to struggle. I soon realized that I had studied for the exam incorrectly, and put myself at a sever disadvantage. Instead of expanding on the points presented by my professor, I solely studied the material that was given to me. After the exam was completed, I felt as though I had done very poorly. My grade on the exam reflected my sentiment, and although I did not fail the exam and earned a C, I felt that I did not do as well as I could have. This taught me a valuable lesson, and it made me review my studying habits. I researched different methods of studying, including making flash cards, incorporating outlines, and joining study groups. There were so many avenues and options that I had not taken advantage of, and after scoring poorly on my exam, I finally learned the right way to approach exams, and it made my college experience much more efficient.
Spring Semester 2014
This is the just some of the body of work I have accomplished and accumulated throughout the spring semester. Countless papers, journals (both Southland RRJs and Switch DEJs), and notes were taken to position myself in the best possible situation for success.

Three insights I learned about myself were the following: I do better on assignments and exams when I set aside time to study multiple times throughout the week, I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor, which include earning good grades, and I have come to love reading and writing much more than I realized. The three insights I have for student success strategies include: setting aside multiple times throughout the week to study and work on my projects, to get to know the professor personally, and ask multiple questions to clarify assignments and exams, and to create study groups with my peers so that different opinions and ideologies can be discussed and shared.
